Episode 16: With Mother’s Day coming around the corner this particular episode was tugging at my heart and I thought it was time we took a look at, What Defines a Mom. For some of us, I even thought it might help us to reframe how we look and think about our own mothers. Motherhood isn’t only defined by the physical experience of birthing, but it is a way of living, giving, loving, and nurturing.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this episode:
What’s In A Name and The Different Seasons of Motherhood
With Mother’s Day coming around the corner this particular episode was tugging at my heart and I thought it was time we took a look at, “What Defines a Mom”. For some of us, I even thought it might help us to reframe how we look and think about our mothers.
I asked myself recently, why does my subject of thought keep traveling back to “moms” in many of my communications and stories? And I realized in so many ways it’s one of the largest building blocks of who I am standing before you today.
There was my mother, grandmother, godmother, aunts, bonus moms, and many other women who I allowed to speak into my life. whether through acceptance or intrusion, by choice, I allowed their actions and words to shape or reshape my thoughts, actions, and motivations.
Honoring Thy mother
The Greek Word, “phileoteknos”, speaks to a mother’s love, and the essence of this love is in taking care of the children, supporting them, bringing them up to be good people, embracing them when they feel alone, and helping them get through hard times.
Now that, my friend, is a mom, who is not dictated by birthright or relation.
I felt this was so important to talk about in this episode because sometimes we get so locked into the known or accepted definition of things we forget to explore the full meaning of words. We forget how we can embrace these amazing women as they color our lives.
